Summer Design Tips to Brighten Up Your Home

England Furniture Bright Living Room Summer Tips

Now that you’ve done your spring cleaning and are ready to enjoy the summertime, here are some tips to brighten up your home and splash into a warmer season. While a complete England Furniture overhaul isn’t for everyone, these tips are for redecorating budgets both big and small.

Light curtains
Let sunlight dance around your home while maintaining privacy. Opt away from the blinds and heavy window treatments this season. Use a sheer curtain fabric in a light color and more solid colors on the sides to frame the window.

Store away the heavy blankets
In the summer it can be comfortable to wrap yourself in a lighter blanket. The look of heavy throw blankets on couches in the living room can give off the wrong feel, so try out a lighter blanket. There are many ottomans from the England Furniture Company that you can use to save those heavier blankets for the fall!

Add some flowers
Fresh cut flowers add life to any room! If you’re prone to allergies, there are ways to make faux flowers look alive. Adding a bit of water to the bottom of a vase can take ordinary fake flowers up a notch. Adding just a few real flowers can tie the look together to make it more believable. Flower arrangements almost always have some greenery in them, so don’t be afraid to add in a few small accents of real green leaves.

Bright pillows
Accent pillows are your couch’s favorite accessory. These pops of color can pick up on a hue in your new bright drapes or threads in your new blanket. This fun accent is an easy way to bring life to any color couch.

Beachy scented candles
Seasonal candles add another dimension of summer to a living space. While the rest of the room can look visibly bright, candles add an extra summery scent.

England Furniture Reviews Some Furniture Arrangement Tips

When it comes to arranging furniture there are many ways one can precede. That does not mean, however, that one can’t make some mistakes. While experts agree that the surest way to create a flawless room is through trial and error, there are a few rules you should keep in mind. England Furniture Reviews how to arrange furniture:

1. Hang Paintings or Mirrors in Relation to the Rest of the Furniture
Paintings or mirrors should ground everything around it. Don’t hang them too high. Typically place them around 24 to 36 inches above a piece of furniture, although that rule vary a bit depending on the height of the artwork or mirror itself.

2. Light Your Room Entirely
Lighting is one of the most essential elements in any space. Spread your light sources around a space and make sure every part of the room gets lit. If, for example, you have a lamp next to your bed, place two more strategically in the room to create a triangle of light.

3. The Coffee Table Should Be Big
Large coffee table, as with rugs, can help to expand and connect a room and an big coffee table contributes more to a room in terms of both aesthetics and function and aesthetics. The coffee table should be placed around 12 to 24 inches away from your sofa.

4. Go Big and Under with Area Rugs
Small rugs make a small room even smaller and they make a large room look disconnected. Your rugs look better when they’re bigger and all the furniture is on them. Place your rug underneath at least the first set of legs of your bed – or under your couch and chairs – to create a cohesive look.

5. The Higher the Curtains, the Better
Go high with your curtains! In many cases it’s best to hang them from the ceilings to the floors. This will make your ceilings appear a lot higher and it expands the room.” Curtains that are too small come off like an afterthought.

Stain Resistant Furniture For Your Lifestyle

Ever watch a movie or TV show and fall in love with the furniture? You know, beautiful stark white down couches with a white shag throw rug and glass top coffee table? It can look picture perfect, but if you duplicate the style in a house full of kids and Rover the family pooch, that look might last about thirty seconds. Maybe.

We all want to live in spaces that make us happy and we can more readily do that when we are realistic about our lifestyles and what comes with it. People who enjoy entertaining will have a hard time with furniture that can’t be lived in because spills and accidents happen in life. If you have kids or children visit often, creating an atmosphere that is comfortable for them will end up making your life easier, especially if they wander a little too close to your collection of first editions while sucking on a juice box.

The colors and accessories we choose for our rooms should complement our personalities and accent the things we love. Sometimes it’s safe to have the main furniture be a neutral color and then use pillows and blankets as colorful accents. If you love leather or dark furniture, then you can brighten the room with lighter shades of paint and bright lighting. No matter what you decide, look at your lifestyle and try to match it to your home décor.

We can still fawn over that white furniture, but parents might want to hold off until the kids are a little bit older.

Season’s Greetings

With the holidays upon us, we may have to move some furniture to accommodate our holiday décor. Whether you’re pulling out a big holiday moose statue or a Christmas tree, sometimes it’s nice to mix things up a little.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that you have to rearrange the entire house. A few fun and simple changes can quickly launch you into the holiday mood.

  • A door wreath is a lovely greeting for incoming guests.
  • New red or gold curtains and matching throw pillows can start the cold winter months with a fun flash of color indoors.
  • A new fuzzy throw rug is always fun to keep toes warm.
  • Twinkle lights around a fireplace mantle or large mirror can make a statement without going completely overboard, (although that’s fun too).
  • Candles can change a simply decorated room into a warm and inviting space.
  • A holiday candy bowl is hard to resist.
  • A festive centerpiece will make any table beautiful and welcoming.

There are plenty of simple and inexpensive ways to make our holidays filled with joy that won’t break the bank. No matter what, this holiday season we should all try to spend time with the people we love and take a moment to be grateful.

Happy Holidays from England Furniture!

Making Your House Your Home

It’s one thing to look at a magazine and fall in love with a look. But sometimes when it all comes together, it’s just not us.

Finding the looks that we love can be fun and also stressful, especially if we have just moved. Here are a few thoughts on how to making your house feel like your home:

  • Choose colors that make you smile. Whether it’s the colors of the walls or the furniture, it should feel like you.
  • With everything being electronic, we only see pictures on our phones these days. Print and frame some of your favorites so that you have great memories all around you.
  • Consider your lighting. If you like things bright, you’ll want lighter colored curtains to let in natural light, if you like it dark, the reverse. Lamps and overhead lighting can give you the look you love.
  • Set your personality loose. If you have a fun hobby or quiet obsession, express it here in your safe space.
  • Keeping things tidy can be tough for anyone, so make life easier with cool baskets to store extra pillows, blankets toys or games.
  • Take your time finding those special pieces. You don’t have to fill every area right away. It’s nice to search for treasures to add your home over time.
  • Art doesn’t have to be expensive to be the highlight of your room. All that matters is that you love it. Frame a print or tapestry or kids art that you cherish and hang it with pride.

No matter your style, make your home an expression of who you are and what you love! Explore more England Furniture pieces today!

Fireplace Season

The cool weather is here and if you are fortunate enough to be able to light a fire, you’ll want to do it right while cozying up in your England Furniture! There is an art to building a fire – and we don’t just mean camping. When setting up the fireplace at your home:

  1. Open the flue.
  2. Clean out any old ashes.
  3. Layer the bottom grate with three or four split logs (depending on the size of your fireplace).
  4. Layer twisted newspaper and kindling wood (twigs or a small firestarter log).
  5. Light kindling.
  6. As the kindling wood starts to catch and burn the logs, place two smaller logs on top. This should give you a nice slow burn with minimal smoke.
  7. Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks:

  • Be sure to use very dry wood.
  • Twist a knot at the end of the newspaper for a longer burn.
  • Push the bottom grate to the back of the fireplace wall so it’s directly under the flue.
  • Place the screen in front of the fireplace when it’s lit to avoid flying sparks.
  • Make sure someone is always present whenever a fire is burning or smoldering.
  • Keep all flammable items away from the fireplace.
  • If/when possible, take a nice walk through the woods or park and find twigs for kindling wood – just for the fun of it!
